Sitting around 40Km inland from Gandia, the small city of Ontinyent straddles the river Clariano (though it sits mostly on the southern side), in a wide, mostly agricultural valley, on the southern edge of Valencia province. The river runs through a small canyon in places, resulting in some attractive areas to the south.
Agricultural crops include olives, almonds, cereals and vegetables, while the city, together with other towns in the area, has had a strong textile industry for some time.
Approximately 1Km south of the city there is a train station on the Alcoy to Xativa line, giving access to Valencia.
