Santa Pola, 20 Km south of Alicante, on the southern Costa Blanca, has 6 beaches, all of golden sand plush fishing harbour (with one of the largest fishing fleets in the Mediterranean) and marina.
This is a thriving tourist town (not as busy as Torevieja a little further down the coast) where fresh fish can be found on the menus of the local restaurants and there is also a fish market.
A variety of water sports are available, including diving.
Santa Pola is also well known for its salt production from beds lying to the west of the town, in an area of marshland important to birdlife, including flamingos.
