Lying approximately 50Km inland from Alicante city and the Costa Blanca coastline, the town of Salinas sits in a wide flat basin which is agricultural, mostly growing almonds with some olives and grape vines.
The town itself lies at 500m above sea level and the Sierra de Salinas to the north west rises to just over 1000m.
To the south east of the town lies a lagoon (now dry most of the time) which was the site of salt extraction until the mid 20th century.
The current town was established in the 18th century after the original town (located closer to the lagoon) was destroyed in floods.
You will find a small selection of banks, shops, bars and restaurants.
