The village of Planes lies approximately 35Km inland from the coastline (via an attractive but not quick route), perched on a rocky outcrop (surmounted by castle ruins) above the Barranc Fondo, one of the streams that feed the nearby Almudaina and Planes Reservoir.
The village has a small number of bars/restuarants, banks and shops, while the larger towns of Muro de Alcoy, Cocentaina, and the city of Alcoy are not far away.
The surrounding area is agricultural, mostly growing olives and almonds, with pines growing on the non agricultural areas of this attractive landscape.
