The small but busy town of Pinoso (known a Pinós in Valencian) lies approximately 50Km west of Alicante city, just inside alicante province against the border with Murcia. Pinoso has been a wealthy town in the past due to the nearby marble and salt mines.
Today, although marble is still quarried close to the town, the area relies more on agriculture, with wine grapes and vegetables being in predominance, but with cereals being grown not far away. Salt is still produced in the area but the process now involves dissolving the salt in high pressure water which is then pumped via a 50Km pipeline to the salt beds of Torrevieja.
The town has a good selection of shops, banks, bars and restaurants.
