Lying approximately 40Km inland from the Costa del Azahar coastline (as the crow flies), the small town of Muro de Alcoy (Muro d'Alcoi in valenciana, or just shortened to Muro) sits at the western end of a green and attractive wide valley surrounded by mountains. Immediately to the west of Muro lies the Serra Mariola, rising to over 1300m, much of which is a natural park due to its diverse (and in some cases unique) flora. Within the valley is the Almudaina and Planes lake, stretching for 4Km when full.
The area is principally agricultural, mainly growing olives, although the textile industry is also important.
There are a selection of shops, banks, bars and retaurants, and there is market (partly covered) on Fridays.
