Situated approximately 50Km inland from the northern Costa Blanca (as the crow flies) or 40Km from the Costa Azahar, the medium sized town of Cocentaina is overlooked by the Sierra de Mariola to the west, which rises to 1200m. However, an obvious feature of the town is the 14th century castle which sits above it on a rocky hill 760m above sea level.
Cocentaina has a station on the Alcoy to Xativa rail line, giving access to Valencia.
