The main house is some 150sqm, comprising downstairs of entrance hall, bathroom and toilet, living room, studio/workshop and large kitchen. Upstairs is a huge loft-style bedroom with toilet and washbasin, and a further bedroom with internal “windows” opening over the studio.
The house has chestnut beams throughout, original doors, bespoke antique pine windows with shutters, a bespoke iron spiral staircase and a woodburning stove which provides plenty of heat in winter for the whole house. The roof was replaced in 2009 and has foam insulation.
The house was purchased as a ruin and fully and professionally renovated. It is very comfortable, economical to run and very spacious.
Outside there are easily-maintained gardens with flowers all year-round, raised irrigated vegetable plots and a variety of trees, a shed and a lean-to and concrete garden furniture. The property is walled all round and has off-road parking at the front.
The smaller house is 60sqm with an open-plan kitchen/living room, with a woodburner, one bedroom and a bathroom with spectacular views!
This house also has chestnut beams and ceiling, a new, insulated roof and is fully refurbished. It too is surrounded by gardens with one entrance from the main house via a gate and another separate entrance, giving more privacy to visitors.
Both houses were built in 1952 of wide stone walls, are sited on solid rock and retain many original features. They have views of the castle and the lake.

Castellar de la Frontera is located within the Nature Reserve of Parque Natural de Alcornocales, next to the reservoir formed by the Guadarranque River and situated at the end of a beautiful mountain road that runs off the A368. Part of the village is within the castle, surrounded by the walls of a well preserved Moorish fortress, with the rest of the village houses located outside the castle walls. It is a protected area and thus will have no more building. There are several good restaurants and bars within walking distance, shops selling local artisan products, and the village has a multinational, friendly atmosphere. It is a perfect place for country lovers, with abundant wildlife such as deer, mouflon, wild boar, birds of prey and the stunning scenery offers acres of walking, cycling, horse riding, kayaking and its elevated position gives wonderful clear views of the North African coast, Gibraltar and the white villages and mountains to the north.

Castellar de la Frontera is half an hour from Gibraltar and the airport, twenty minutes from the commercial center at Los Barrios with Carrefour, Lidl, Media Markt, Decathlon, Leroy Merlin etc.. The 'New' village at the foot of the hill has all the usual amenities and also has a train station. The busy port of Algeciras with daily ferries to Morocco is half an hour away. Tarifa, the wind and kitesurfing capital with its beautiful white beaches less than an hour away, winter skiing in Granada a train ride away, the famous Ferias of Seville and horses of Jerez de la Frontera all wonderfully close! The area is famous for its Tapas bars and restaurants serving local fare; venison, wild boar and fresh fish.

Much of Andalusia enjoys in excess of 300 days of sun a year. In Castellar the summers are hot but tempered by pleasant breezes. Winters are mild. It is a very special place to live; peaceful and safe and truly beautiful. It is a rare place where you can leave your house door open and your car unlocked! Our houses would make a perfect permanent or holiday home, (a gardener is available!)
