The town of Poio (also spelt Poyo) sits 4km north west of the city of Pontevedra, on the oposite side of the Ria de Pontevedra, just inland from the coast of western Galicia. There is bridge access to the city, making the town popular with commuters.
The surrounding land is mostly agricultural, growing vegetables, while the surrounding hills are forested.
