Sitting on the western coast of Galicia, Baiona was the local centre of trade until the expansion of Vigo just over a century ago. It was here that the first of Columbus' ships returned with the news of the descovery of the Americas.
This old fishing port with plenty of history is as now a popular destination with a large marina and plenty of bars/restaurants along the front and a number of beaches in the area. The impressive Castelo de Montereal, built between the 12th and 16th centuries, overlooks the coast and is now a parador hotel.
The old town with it's narrow streets is situated just behind the large marina.
The Islas Atlanticas National Park, consisting of four groups of islands is nearby
