At approximately 100km from the Portuguese border and 200Km north of Sevilla, the small town of Montánchez is located in the centre of the Extremadura region. The town sits at around 700m above sea level on the edge of the Sierra de Montánchez (a small mountain range), giving it open views across the surrounding countryside.
There is a well preserved castle with Roman origens overlooking the town from a small hill on the western side, while the Plaza de España in the centre of town has cloisters on two sides.
The surrounding area is agricultural with olive trees and grape vines being grown. The production of Iberico ham is also important in the area.
