The small city of Reus in Tarragona Province is one of Spain's little surprises.
It has the feel of an old city, with narrow streets and smart little shops and restaurants, but is compact and easy to get arround.
Possibly its main claim to fame is that it was the birth place and home of Gaudi until he went to architectural college in Barcelona at the age of 16.
At the Plaza Mercadal in the centre of the city is the Gaudi Visitor Centre (which includes the tourist information office) which is well worth a visit due to the large amount of information about Gaudi and how his designs were inspired by nature.
There is also an easy to walk route around the city showcasing the many modernist buildings on hand (though none by Gaudi himself).
Reus has a rail station linking it to Tarragona city and the coast, plus Reus airport is located just outside the city.
