Located 45Km inland from the Costa Dorada coastline, the town of Flix is almost an island in the River Ebro, as the river swings round in almost 360 degrees at this point.
On the upper side of town, the river is dammed (enabling the road to cross the river) and there is a hydro electical power station. On the lower side of the town there is a ferry crossing.
On the northern bank of the river above the town you will find the Sebes Nature Reserve of Flix, a wetlands birding location. As with much of the river Ebro, this is also an important fishing area for catfish and carp which can come in very large sizes, and is host to an annual international fishing competition.
