Located 4 km south of Mora d'Ebre on the river Ebro, 25km inland from the Costa Dorada, the large village of Benissanet lies in an agricultural area of the fertile valley, predominantly growing peaches and cherries. The village is also known for its ceramics production.
Although the village has a long history, it saw heavy destruction during the civil war, taking a heavy toll on the buildings and population. A notable tourist attraction is a bomb shelter dating from this period.
