Located on the Costa Brava coastline, 20Km south of the French border, Roses sits on the northern end of the Bay of Roses.
Although tourism is obviously important to the town of Roses, the town is also said to have the largest fishing fleet on the Costa Brava. Although originally a fishing village, no evidence of that now remains, and this is a popular modern holiday resort. The shoreline has a number of large hotels and apartment blocks, while the hill behind the port is dotted with smaller apartment blocks and villas.
The town has wide sandy beaches (all of which have been awarded blue flag status) in a sweeping bay, which results in some beaches actually facing west looking across the bay, although this is the east coat.
