The town of Aguilar De Campoo lies just south of the Cantabrian Mountains, adjacent to the 8km long lake, Embalse de Aquilar de Campoo.
The town on the banks of the river Pisuerga, and overlooked by a 12th century castle, has much religious, civil, and military heritage with well preserved Romanesque and Renaissance architecture.
One obvious feature of the town, apart from the castle, is the large Plaza España lined with cloisters, bars and restaaurants, with the 16th century Collegiate Church of San Miguel at it's head.
