Laredo, one of the main tourist destinations on the Cantabria coastline, approximately halfway between Santander and Bilbao, is famous in the area for its long sandy beach (La Salvo) which is 5Km long. There is also a large marina at the eastern end of the beach.
The old part of the town dates back to the middle ages and was declared an Historic-Artistic Site in 1970. Here you will find narrow cobbled streets with some impressivly large houses plus parts of the old city wall. Along the length of it beach, there has been modern devlopment of medium rise apaartment blocks.
Laredo has an impressive Flower Battle festival held on the last Friday in August.
