The picturesque town of Mutriku (known as Motrico in Castillian Spanish) sits in a valley behind a small sheltered natural harbour in the centre of the Basque country coastline. Outside of the harbour is a small beach of golden sand where water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing, scuba diving or snorkeling are possible, while the nearby coastline is rocky.
The local economy relies mostly on fishing and agriculture, with some engineering and tourism.
Although the town is quiet and away from traffic, the AP-8 motorway and the narrow guage railway are only 3Km away at Deba.
The town, which has a small number of bars, restuarants, and shops, is surrounded by green fields and areas of woodland.
