The fishing village of Porto Petro, near the south-east corner of Mallorca, lies in a natural inlet, 2Km south of the larger and popular resort of Cala d'Or, and around 60Km from the capital, Palma. The village, which is within the municipality of Santanyi, has no beach, but provides sheltered mooring for a number of fishing and leisure boats. The nearest beach is approaching 2Km away.
The surrounding area, close to the village and the coastline, consists mostly of natural woodland, growing pine trees.
The village has a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants which are likely to remain open all year, as the village is not affected by tourism seasonality in the smae way that the resorts may be.
