The small town of Pravia lies on the western bank of the Rio Nalón, approximately 9Km inland from the Costa Verde coastline, 30Km from Oviedo and 35Km from Aviles. The town has the benefit of a rail station with connections to Oviedo, Aviles and Gijon.
The fertile land in the immediate area is used for growing fruit trees (including kiwi fruit), vegetables and grassland (with milk production being important). The higher ground is forested, creating an attractive and peaceful countryside.
This historic town has an important place in the history of Asturias and has several notable buildings, including the Santianes de Pravia church which partly dates back to 780, and the Palacio de Moutas in the centre of town.
