The old walled (much of the wall being intact or restored) town of Carmona lies 30 Km east of the city of Sevilla, on the road to Cordoba. The town, situated on a ridge overlooking extensive plains, is of Roman origin with the wall and many of the fine buildings having been built later by the Moors.
The town features narrow cobbled streets and historic buildings, overlooked by the restored Arab fortress which is now a Parador (state run hotel).
