Located on one of the two main routes from the Costa del Sol coastline to the town of Ronda, the whitewashed village of El Burgo sits at just under 600m above sea level (much of the road from here to Ronda is close to 1000m above sea level), approximately 50Km from the coastline. It is situated on the northern edge of the sierra Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, and with the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The immediately surrounding gently rolling countryside mostly grows olive and almond trees.
You will find a small selection of banks and shops, plus a good selection of bars and restaurants. The traditional market takes place on Wednesdays.
