The popular white-washed village of Competa lies in the hills 630m above sea level, approximately 15 Km inland from the Costa del Sol coastline, 45 Km east of Malaga, in the area known as Axarquia. This large village is typical of the area with narrow cobbled streets between the white-washed houses dating back to the time of the Moors, although the village is believed to have roman origins.
You will find a selection of bars and restaurants here where you will be able to sample the locally produced wine and food.
Wine is produced locally (both dry and desert wine), and their fiesta on 15th August is called Noche del Vino (night of wine). Grapes are also dried on teh hillsides to produce raisins - the drying areas can be seen beside practically every old house as you drive round the area.
