Situated at the eastern end of the Alpujarras, almost on the border with Almeria province, the small whitewashed town of Ugijar sits around 550m above sea level. This is an agricultural area growing almonds and olives. Some say that Ugijar is the gateway from the Alpujarras to Almeria province.
The city of Granada is around 100Km to the north west and the coast 45Km to the south.
The town has a small selection shops, bars and restaurants, and a museum located in an old convent. It is also possible to by locally made rugs in the area.
