This town is situated on the west side of Granada and divided by the Rio Genil.It was an old moorish town originally known as Medina Lawsa.
There are numerous springs including one that feeds the fountain called Fuente de la Mora or Fountain of the Moorish Maiden. It has a population of 22,000 and nestles in rolling hills and fertile land. There is a railway which connects to the airports of Granada and Malaga being about 35 minutes away.
The town is located near the A92 motorway and the surrounding area is ideal for outdoor pursuits such as hiking, cycling, caving and paragliding. There are many bars, restaurants and places of interest to visit with the market being held every Monday.
