Huescar (the name meaning "City of Peace") is a small town lying approximately 80Km inland from the Costa de Almeria and the Costa Calida, in a picturesque corner of Granada province.
The main building of interest is the Gothic - Renaissance styled Collegiate Church of St. Mary the Major, dating from the 16th century.
The area is mostly agricultural (predominantly growing olives and keeping livestock) with woodland, but the lakes and mountains or the Sierra de Castril Natural Park lie close to the north.
