Castril, located in the north east corner of Granada province, 150 Km from the city of Granada and 35Km north of Baza, sits at around 1000 m above sea level. The village has been recognised as being of historic interest.
It is a small village with narrow streets of white houses with the remains of a Moorish castle at the top of a rock and sits on the edge of the Parque Natural de la Sierra de Castril, which includes the Cueva de Don Fernando, one of the longest and deepest caves in the Granada province.
This is good walking country with some stunning scenery and lake Portillo about 1Km from the village.
