The village of Cádiar sits at just over 900m above sea level, approximatley 25Km east of Orgiva in the Alpujarras, in the valley of the Guadalfeo river which flows down from the Sierra Nevada.
A fertile plain near the river is used for growing almonds olives, vines for wine production, and some vegetables, but during the time of the Moors (when this would have been a thriving and prosperous area), silk production would also have been important.
Local crafts include ceramics and esparto grass products, which can be bought locally. The village has a small selection of banks, shops, bars and restaurants.
