The small town of Setenil de las Bodegas, located approximately 70Km west of Malaga and 12Km north of Ronda, has facinated visitors by the way it has been into the narrow gorge of the river Trejo. Many of the houses are cave houses and a whole street is built under an overhanging rock that appears to cut through the tops of the houses.
The history of Setenil de las Bodegas dates back to Roman times and there is also a castle dating back to the 12th century. However, it is quite likely that the original caves were inhabited much earlier than this judging by other evidense in the area.
The town has a selection of bars and restaurants providing good food which is likely to include local pork or chorizo sausages.
