The whitewashed village of Serón sits beside the Almanzora valley between the large towns of Albox and Baza, at an altitude of around 800m, on the northern slopes of the Sierra Filabres. This is an agricultural area mainly growing olives although in the 19th and early 20th centuries, there was significant mining in the area.
Serón is well known for it's production of ham and sausages, the local climate (cool winter winds) being considered ideal for curing hams.
At the highest point of the village stands a castle with origins dating back to the Moors in the 13th century, and the village church dates back to the 17th century. You will find a small selection of shops, banks, bars and restaurants.
The surrounding area is suitable for walking or mountain biking.
