The town of Arboleas sits beside the citrus growing valley of the Amlanzora river (one of the very few small rivers in the area), approximately 30Km inland from the Costa de Almeria coastline.
The surrounding area is mostly agricultural, growing citrus fruit, olives and almonds, and although there has been quite a lot of new building on the outskirts, the town still has an attractive old centre with cobbled streets and a church dating from 1492.
Sitting not far from the improved A334, Arboleas has good road connections to the Maditerranean motorway, and inland to the larger towns of Albox and Baza.
