Los Alcazares, situated on the western edge of the Mar Menor (an inland sea separated from the Mediterranean by a thin strip of land on its eastern side), was a resort even in Roman times and has a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars.
The Mar Menor has a maximum depth of 7 metres and as a result tends to be warmer than the Mediterranean, and has a higher level of minerals which are thought to have health giving properties.
There are some fine blue flag beaches in the area, water sports and a number of golf courses to choose from.
