Aguilas, a large port town on the southern end of the Costa Calida coast of Murcia province, has Roman origins but was then developed as an important port for the export of the agricultural produce from the local fertile land.
Today the town is an attractive place which welcomes tourists but remains relatively unspoilt and very Spanish.
The town has sandy beaches and included in its list of fairs and fiestas is the Aguilas Carnival, 2 weeks of extravagant processions involving most of the population, which has been declared a National Tourist Interest.
