The Costa del Sol (Sunshine coast) is possibly the best known of all the Spanish Costas. It stretches along the Malaga coast, approximately from Estepona in the west to Nerja in the east, an attractive stretch of coastline with many fishing villages and towns which have now become holiday resorts.

Much of this coastline has high hills or mountains very close, creating some dramatic locations.

While Nerja, with its famous caves, may be the only resort of any size on the Costa del Sol east of Malaga, there are a number of well known and popular resorts to the west including Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella, Puerto Banus and Estepona, an area with many long beaches of golden sand.

Inland from the western end of the costa is the Los Alcornocales Nature Park (one of the worlds largest cork oak forests) and the Sierra de Grazalema Nature Park (with its rare Spanish Pine forest and colonies of birds of prey).

The Costa del Sol is serviced by Malaga airport which is roughly central to the costa and within 1hr drive to all parts.
