The attractive pueblo blanco (white village) of Comares sits on hill, over 700m above sea-level, making it stand out from a distance, and visible from the coast.
The village is located within the area known as Axarquia and is approximately 15Km inland from the Costa del Sol just east of Malaga, making it accessible to the airport yet away from the busy parts of the coast further west.
The whitewashed houses line the narrow cobbled streets that have seen plenty of history, from the time of the Moors and before (there are two arches dating back to medieval times).
There a small number of bars and restaurants in Comares plus an attractive small hotel which was originally an olive mill.
