The small town of Iznájar sits on a promontory overlooking the 30km long lake, Ebalse de Iznájar, situated approximately 80km south of the city of Cordoba, 60km west of Granada and 60km north of Malaga and the Costa del Sol.
The village dates back to pre-historic times but flourished during the time of the Moors. There are ruins of a Moorish castle at Iznajar and parts of the old fortified town walls can still be seen.
