Mojacar is the main tourist destination on this stretch of the Costa de Almeria, but has space for everyone with a low-rise area of development along about 5Km of the coast (Mojacar Playa). The playa is divided into a number of separate beaches, many having blue flag status, by rocky outcrops, and there is the expected selection of bars and restaurants (some on the beach) along the way.

The southern end of the playa tends to have a more British flavour while the northern end is more Spanish. There is an almost separate resort developing around the Marina hotel and golf course half way between Mojacar and Garrucha

Meanwhile Mojacar itself is an old pueblo blanco, perched on top of a craggy hill 2 Km inland.
The pueblo is impressively moorish with a typical maze of white-washed houses huddled around narrow streets where you will find shops restaurants and bars along with vantage points giving stunning views to the sea or inland to the mountains.

The cartoonist Walt Disney is said to have been born in Mojacar, before emigrating with his parents to America.
