Huercal Overa is the main town in the Eastern corner of Almeria province, around 20 Km inland from this end of the Costa de Almeria.
This is an agricultural area where vegetable crops are grown (not under plastic) and unusually for the area, there are plantations of pine trees around.
The town has the usual facilities with bars and restaurants, a busy market on Mondays, and boasts a modern hospital.
